Istoria began as a dream of creating a collaborative hybrid school that brings families into their child’s education. As a public educator with over a decade of experience as well as a former home-school and private school student, I’ve witnessed the strengths and challenges of various educational settings, informing my vision for Istoria.

When I decided to open Istoria, I envisioned a model that would not only prioritize student needs but empower educators, students, and parents to work together as a community. I had seen firsthand how vital parent involvement is in a child’s education, and knew a school model that not only embraced but required parent-teacher partnerships would drive a student-focused framework. My experience during COVID-19, when parents had to help facilitate at-home learning, along with my work in a dual language program, deepened my understanding of how to share educational responsibilities and agendas with co-educators.

As a hybrid school, Istoria embraces the strengths of both home-learning and classroom-learning. The home-learning aspect of Istoria allows us to provide one-on-one support and tailor instruction to meet the needs of high achievers or provide additional support for struggling learners. This also gives us the opportunity to engage students’ individual interests by diving deeper into topics that resonate with them, without being tied to rigid schedules or curriculums.

Our educational philosophy is also anchored in structure and organization, as we believe children thrive when they know what to expect. Within a classroom that fosters social emotional learning, students have the opportunity to be called to higher standards of excellence in how they treat their peers and work together toward common goals. By navigating deadlines and collaboration, students learn life skills and are equipped for long-term growth.

My vision is for Istoria Academy to be more than school, but a community where every student can thrive. Istoria offers families the opportunity to bring the fun and freedom back into learning by accommodating student needs and interests while still upholding educational standards and strategies. I invite you to join us on this exciting journey, where education meets creativity, collaboration, and connection.
